ABOUT SHEPPARDS
Serving the Hood River Valley Since 1919
A FAMILY BUSINESS SINCE 1919
Founded in 1919 by brothers Charles M. and William O., Sheppard’s is one of the oldest family owned businesses in the Hood River area, currently in its fourth generation of ownership.
Farmers themselves in the Odell area, the brothers began by offering packing house equipment and apple graders to local farmers.
They quickly expanded into the farm machinery business to serve a growing local industry in the early 1920’s. Soon after its founding, C.M. and W.O. moved the business from Odell into downtown Hood River where it remained for 92 years.

BREAKING NEW GROUND IN 2017
1933: Downtown Location
2025: Waterfront Location
Sheppards completed construction on its brand-new 20,000 square-foot headquarters in 2017.
Designed to support both sales and service operations, the facility includes a large shop area that allows for expanded assembly and repair services onsite. Improved loading docks have also made product delivery faster and more efficient.
Although the 107-year-old brand now operates in a modern space, its history remains a visible part of the experience. Vintage advertisements line the wood-clad walls, antique tractors fill the showroom floor, and large corrugated metal doors create a direct connection between the retail space and the shop.
EXPANDING WITH THE INDUSTRY
John Deere products were added in 1932 and quickly became the focus of Sheppard’s farm machinery business. Kubota tractors followed in 1972, making Sheppard’s one of the first Kubota dealers in the nation.
While agriculture has always been the foundation, the company has explored other industries over the years. Studebaker and Toyota were introduced in 1939 and 1959, marking brief ventures into automotive sales before the business returned its full focus to farm equipment.
As technology and customer needs have evolved, so has Sheppard’s. The addition of brands like Stihl, Honda, and Kubota Construction Equipment reflects an ongoing commitment to providing the right tools for local farmers, property owners, and the wider community.
